When the Lynch family members created the James River ferry service in the late 1700's most of their customers came from the Hat Creek Settlement which we know now as Campbell County.
A variety of residents are attracted to Campbell County due to the assortment of industrial hubs, centers of commerce, residential communities, low taxes and bountiless farmland.
There are three thriving towns in Campbell County and several industrial and commercial clusters such as The Mt. Athos and Timberlake areas.
The village of Rustburg is Campbell County's county seat, located about 10 miles south of Lynchburg.
Rustburg has a large shopping center with a chain grocery store and with the new Court House it is a centerpiece of a governmental complex that includes the sheriff's offices, jail, social services, and county library.
Concord is a small town next to Rustburg and one of the newest neighborhoods in that area is Meadowoaks.
Altavista is famous for the Lane Company and it's cedar chests and is located about 25 miles south of Lynchburg.
Some of the more popular neighborhoods in Altavista include Holly Hills, Myrtle Lane, Broad Street and Lakewood.Brookneal is small country town and the home of Patrick Henry, one of our founding fathers.
Some of the most sought after neighborhoods are Rainbow Forest , Russell Springs and Sleepy Hollow are located in the northern sections of Campbell County.
Brookville High School, Altavista High School, William Campbell High School and Rustburg High School are the four high schools in Campbell County which service as the top layer of a strong educational system.Campbell County Technical Center offers vocational training at Yellow Branch. There is a satellite center of Central Virginia Community College in both Altavista and Brookneal.
